Creating From Fear

On a day in which we dress up in costumes and celebrate the spookier things of life and the afterlife, it seems appropriate to address the fear that can often keep us from creating our best work.

Most creatives will admit they are fragile beings, mere moments away from a complete emotional breakdown. We wake up each day wondering what version of ourselves we’ll be and if today will be the day that we’re exposed for the fraud we believe we really are.

I recently experienced this sort of crossroads when transitioning from a 17-year career in one field to becoming an entrepreneur overnight. I can tell you from this rocky experience, that most days I felt like a fake. I confessed to my wife that I felt like I was just “playing” a creative but didn’t really feel like one most days. She affirmed in me the confidence that I’m not a creative person because of any amount of success, but it’s who God has created me to be and nothing can take that away.

Friend, God has created you uniquely the way you are and the world needs you and your creativity. I promise that you cannot create from this place of fearing that you’re somehow a fraud. You are creative. You are valuable, You are seen.

Don’t create from fear today.
