Reflect and Recharge: Learning from 2024 to Fuel the Future

It’s getting close to the end of the year, the time when I encourage self-reflection on the year’s accomplishments and challenges. This is not a filler task, but one of importance that you should take seriously. Here are four ways to ensure you get the right reflection and recharge as the year comes to a close:

  1. Block out time for this exercise. We’ve said it all year: Be intentional. Without the proper intention we wander, which leads us to wonder why it didn’t go to plan.

  2. Review your creative wins and losses. Not everything is a win. What can you learn from your failures this year? How can you frame it in your mind so that it serves as a motivator moving forward? Also, not everything is a failure. I’m willing to bet you won more than you realize this year. Celebrate that success. What gets celebrated gets repeated.

  3. Identify patterns: What fueled success? What caused roadblocks? When were you at your best? At your worst? Why? Identifying patterns helps you prevent past mistakes and replicate success.

  4. Guided journaling prompts: "What did I learn about my process this year?" There are thousands of journal prompts you could use, but in our context, none stronger than what you learned about your processes this year. There is no such thing as the perfect process for everyone because everyone is different. And your processes will morph over time into exactly what you need them to be, so take notes on it so that you own your processes, they don’t get to own you.

With renewed clarity and confidence to approach the year-end intentionally, you can propel yourself and your team into the best year yet.
