Top 10 from Austin, TX

My wife and I randomly celebrated 20 years of marriage with a week in Austin, TX… in the summer. But it was great. Here are my top 10 favorites from this trip:

  1. Uninterrupted time with Sarah (my wife). After 20 years, we don’t get a lot of consecutive & uninterrupted time just the two of us to just be, live, and explore. That was by far my favorite part of the trip.

  2. Walkable and Waymo. Downtown Austin is surprisingly walkable, even in the heat, as long as you walk in the morning or evening. For the longer and hotter trips, we took Waymo rides, a new adventure for my wife and a record amount of rides in a week for me.

  3. Natural Pools (Deep Eddy). Since 1935, this Colorado River water-fed natural pool has been cooling off Texans, and it was extremely refreshing, spacious, and well-maintained. Pool Burger after both stops here was a perfect exclamation point.

  4. Solid recommendations. Not only did we receive numerous lists of rec’s before we ever boarded the plane to Austin, but once there, everywhere we went, locals had an additional handful of “must-try” spots for us.

  5. Food. We ate so, so much. And none of it was just par. All of it was superb. Arlo Grey, Odd Duck, La Barbecue, ATX Cocina, & All Day Pizza, just to name a few. (Before you say anything, Franklin BBQ was closed for the week. So…

  6. Low(er) humidity. 20% lower humidity than what we get in West GA made the 100-degree temps feel so much more bearable.

  7. Trails. We walked almost 2 miles of this beautiful trail along the water and ended up at number 3 above to refresh ourselves afterwards.

  8. Bats.

  9. Art. Murals and Blanton Museum of Art.

  10. Coffee. Better Half. Black Fox. Houndstooth. Sugarwolf.
