A Lesson From Sunflowers
We have a small, thriving (sometimes) garden on our little homestead that my wife loves to nurture. We love watching as (some) plants thrive and come to life before our very eyes every day. One of the many plants we have in there is sunflowers.
The other morning over coffee on the front porch, a daily rhythm of ours, my wife informed me of something interesting she read in one of her many garden books that I just had to share with you.
Sunflowers grow taller the closer they are planted to each other.
Instantly I thought, “Wow, what a parallel to our mental health".” As humans, we can thrive and grow stronger the closer we plant ourselves next to others. We need people. We were designed that way. The Bible states very early on that its “not good for man to be alone.”
We need each other.
If you feel like isolating yourself is the answer to your silent struggles, you couldn’t be more wrong. Let’s take a lesson from sunflowers and grow stronger together.
