How’s Your Year Been?

I love the Nateland Podcast. Comedian Nate Bargatze joined by 3 of his comedian friends hosts a weekly podcast in his home where they pick a random topic and dish on it for a couple of hours. What ensues is complete hilarity and I’ve been a fan for almost two years now.

At some point between the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024, they joked about when it was appropriate to ask someone “How has your year been?”. Can you ask that on January 7th and get a legit answer, or do you need to wait until closer to the arrival of spring before assessing the quality of your calendar year?

The discussion was funny, for sure, but then I got to thinking about how many of us have these mega plans, goals, and ambitions for the new year. The new business we’ll drum up, the new places we’ll travel, and the new person we aim to become.

This is my first post in March so I’ve been dying to ask, how has your year been? Are you on track to accomplish all you set out to two months ago? Are you ahead? Behind? Have you given up yet?

I’m here to beg you to not give up.

Don’t be a part of the New Year resolution cliche. You can do everything you set out to do. Yes, it will be hard, yes it probably HAS been hard up to this point. You’ve probably already hit a few obstacles and that’s to be expected, it’s ok.

If you’ve already given up, it’s okay, there are still 10 months left in the year. You can start back up today. It’s never too late to start what you know you need to do. Your future self will thank you and I cannot wait to ask you again in a few months, “How has your year been?”
